MDM (master data management)

Definition

MDM is the discipline and software that give a company's master data —customers, suppliers, products, locations— a single correct version shared by every system.

An MDM covers many data domains at once and is usually a company-wide project, with governance and quality rules.

A PIM can be seen as an MDM focused on the product and on selling it: besides keeping the data correct, it describes the product for each channel, with attributes, content, images and translations.
