Comments on a product

Notes for your team inside each product: what's missing, what to review and what was decided.

Video transcript

In this video, you'll leave notes for your team inside a product.

Every product has a comments thread: notes for your team that never go into exports or your store.

With suppliers there are two threads: the internal one, just for your team, and the one shared with the supplier.

Type @ and pick someone: they get a notification in the bell, with a link to this comment.

A comment stays pending until someone resolves it; resolved ones fold away and can be reopened.

In the next video, you'll split up the catalog with tasks and due dates.

What it is

Every product has a "Comments" tab: a thread where any member of your organization leaves notes about that product. It's working memory, not content: nothing you write there goes into exports, feeds or your store.

  • Plain text, up to 2,000 characters per comment.
  • Each comment shows who wrote it and when.
  • The tab shows how many comments are still pending.

Who sees it and who writes

Every member of the organization sees the thread and can comment. A comment is deleted by its author or by an administrator; comments aren't edited: if something changed, write another one.

If your organization has suppliers, the product page has two threads: «Internal», seen only by your team, and «With the supplier», seen by your team and that brand's supplier. What you write goes to the thread you have open, and a note never changes threads. The supplier only sees theirs, and isn't suggested when you mention someone in the internal one.

Resolving

A comment is open until someone marks it resolved. Resolved ones fold to the end of the thread and can be reopened. Resolving requires the editor role or above, not just whoever wrote it; commenting is open to anyone, including a viewer.

Mentioning someone

Type @ and pick a member of your organization: their email is inserted (for example, @ana@store.com). That person gets a notification in the app's bell, with a link that opens the product right at that comment.

It only notifies members of your organization. If you type an email that isn't a member, the screen tells you before you send, and mentioning yourself doesn't notify anyone.

When a version is rejected

If an administrator rejects a version from «Pending approval» and leaves a reason, the reason shows up in the thread marked «Rejection» with its language, and whoever generated that version gets a notification in the bell. The product says «Rejected · see reason» until someone generates a new version or submits it again.

If that version was written by a supplier, the reason goes to the «With the supplier» thread so they can read it; otherwise, to the internal one.

What it doesn't do

  • It doesn't send emails: a mention's notification only reaches the app's bell.
  • No images or files: that's what the "Images" tab is for.
  • It isn't exported to your store: it's internal to your organization.
Your comments travel in your data download (Account → Data and privacy) and are deleted with the product or with the organization.
